About DecoMarj

Why consider DecoMarj for your printing and gift needs?  There are a few ways I could answer this.

I could tell you how much I have loved cards, papers and ribbons since childhood, how fonts fascinate me, that I spend hours designing for clients for free, just because I enjoy it.  Nothing’s wrong with that; vendors should enjoy what they do.

I could explain that skills acquired in my previous career as a quality assurance manager and scientist are applicable in the creative field, as well.  Focus, attention to detail, multi-tasking, accurate repetitiveness, efficiency, all big words, but enable me to provide quick turnaround, correct orders, and beautifully assembled cards.

Conversely, I could list a variety of adjectives that self-describe me, my work ethic and my company’s value.  Some words that come to mind are:  dedicated, easily accessible, creative, knowledgeable, honest, quality products, excellent customer service, fair pricing.  But that sounds so cliché - who wouldn’t describe themselves that way?

So, what I’d like to do is share some actual situations.   I’ve been told by colleagues that I tend to be quiet and soft spoken.  I don’t disagree with them; I am not extroverted.  I’m a listener.  My clients have never complained about this trait.  Clients like to be HEARD and UNDERSTOOD.  They don’t want to be TALKED AT.

During our meeting, I won’t dominate the conversation, but I’ll focus on drawing out your vision.  I’ll pay attention to what you say, your likes, dislikes, even things you don’t say.  As you are looking at samples, I’ll make note of what makes you smile, noting which fonts, formatting and styles you prefer.  Of course, I’ll interject with suggestions and you’ll always get my honest feedback, positive or negative, with an explanation behind the reasoning.  But your decision will be honored - you will have control over the design style and cohesiveness of your paper and gift suite.

I’ve been complimented many times for providing honest opinions and suggestions.  For instance, I will point out the pros and cons of the different printing techniques that could be used.  Maybe one method is more expensive and I’ll suggest a less expensive alternative to achieve the same look and save you money.  Clients appreciate that I respect budget constraints, while maintaining their look/style.

Another common issue, where I spend a little more time, is on formatting.  I may explain why one method for a particular design will work better.  If the client cannot visualize it, I provide actual examples.  When a verbal description doesn’t help the client to understand, often a visual is necessary to help the explanation make sense.

I’ve had several clients tell me that they love the look I get on my face when I see it in my mind’s eye, then go about my studio gathering papers, ribbon and cutting and sticking them together.  Right before their very eyes, their vision comes to life.  That’s the beauty of getting to know the personality of your designer.  You recognize when the creativity is striking, as you see your design being created right in front of you, you are there; you’re a part of it.

I can’t wait to get started, how about you??
